Hey-o, Word-wielders,
As writers, we obviously write. But that's not all the writerly things word-wielders can do. In this blog post, I'll be sharing several things for writers to do (that are mostly related to writing and books and such. I'm not going to tell you to go swim in your pool, though you certainly can.
1. Mock-up book covers
Whether you want to motivate yourself on your current project or just like making cover art, this is one things writers can do. Make one for your real book, make one for an imaginary book, make a new cover for your favorite book by a different author.
You can find free stock images on Pexels and Unsplash, or you can make ai images with a generator like Bing's. Add some text, jazz up the picture if you so desire, and have fun. To the side here are some made-up book covers I designed, using ai images
2. Find theme songs for your characters
If you're into music, you might like this one. You can find a song that suits one of your characters. Maybe the words reflect their personality, maybe the tune is one they'd like.
3. Write book reviews.
With sites like Goodreads, it's super easy to write and share reviews of books you've read before. Stretch your brain and write a thoughtful, helpful, and constructive review of a book.
4. Redo your book or notebook covers
Yes, I am talking about drawing on (on!?) a book cover. If you own a hardcover with a jacket there often is a solid-colored cover underneath. You can remove the jacket and draw, write, scrapbook, paint, etc. on the cover. It's fun. You can do the same with one of your notebooks.
5. Reorganize your bookshelf
I sound like such a literary nerd writing this, but it can be fun too. My books are currently shelved by color. I start with the neutrals, followed by the colors of the rainbow, but you could also go by height, author, title, date of publishing, favorite to least favorite, or some other classification.
6. Spend time with God
This isn't exactly a writery thing, but for all Christians out there, spending time with the Lord is so, so, so valuable, more than anything else on this list.
