Hey-o, Word-wielders,
If you've been writing for a while, you can tell you've improved drastically, and your friends and family have told you so, maybe you're feeling ready for a bigger audience.
But, if you've read on how to traditionally publish, that can easily plop you down with a frown. Query letters, agents, editors, you just want your poem/story/book to be out there.
Never fear! There is other ways, and today, that's exactly what I'll be talking about.
1. Writing contests
There are lots of writing contests you can enter, with a variety of prizes. Some have an entry fee, some are free. I've entered a bunch in my time, and the most excited I ever got from one was when I got into the top 30 in a poetry contest of over 500 entries. I remember screaming and running to tell members of my family.
2. Writing sites
There are multiple sites you can join where you can post your writing. Like any site similar to social media, exercise sense and caution before and during usage of a writing site. I am a part of writing site, and when I was younger, it really helped to improve my writing and it gave me the opportunity to read stuff by fellow young writers.
3. Self-publishing
At this point you may have been thinking something like this: Well, this is all fine and dandy, but I have a book I want out there, not just poems and short stories and the like!
In that case, self-publishing is your friend.
There are ways to self-publish that cost money, and ways that are free. I've used free methods for all three of my books, which can be found here. I've used Kindle Direct Publishing (which is through Amazon), and Kobo Writing Life (which is through Kobo.) There is also Draft2Digital, but I haven't used it for my books.
With Kindle Direct Publishing, you have the option to create a paperback, hardcover, and Kindle Versions of your book, all at no cost. You can either upload your own cover or create one in their cover creator.
With Kobo Writing Life, you can create an eBook. They don't have a cover creator, but you can upload one for your book.
And that's 3 ways you can get your writing out there. If you have any questions feel free to leave them for me in the comments below. And, as always . . .
May you live for Christ and give Him praise!
~Claira
