I'm Stuck! Ways to Help Overcome Writer's Block

Published on 5 September 2024 at 10:30

Hey-o, Word-wielders,

Maybe you're reading this post because you follow my blog. Maybe you're some bored individual who just happened to find this (hello!). But maybe, you have a problem.

Cue blinking cursor on blank screen, pencil frozen above an intimidating empty page.

Wonderful, wonderful writer's block.

Writer's block is when you don't know what to write. You could be stuck on a new novel idea, have no poetic inspiration floating around, or be just blanked-out on what your Midpoint should be. And today, I'll be sharing 5 tips on how to conquer this beast!

1. Pray

Christians, you have the most valuable resource on the world right at your fingertips: God! If you're stuck, pray for inspiration. Who knows, God may give you an idea for a book that could change the world.

2. Take a break

Sometimes, a break is all you need. Go outside, play with your pet, see your friends. Your brain will thank you for the rest and might gift you with an idea.

3. Read

Reading can be so, so inspirational. Find a good book, curl up, and see what inspiration might be hiding in there.

4. Junk writing

This is where you just write. Write about your best friend, your fingernails, how bored you are, etc. Rabbit trails may bring inspiration straight to the doorstep of your imagination.

5. Prompts

Prompts are everywhere. Look some up online, find a prompt book (Check out my post 7 Free Resources for Writers for a free one) or ask your friends.

Well, there's 5. What do you do to conquer writer's block? Let me know down below.

May you live for Christ and give Him praise

Wow, these are some great ways to overcome writer's block!

For me personally, my favorite way to work through writer's block is by talking it out with someone. Conversations can be treasure-troves of ideas!

Keep up the good work, Claira! Your blog is incredible—it's so nice to see a fellow young writer honoring God!♡
